commissioned award

It's Award Season and the Orders are Pouring In!

Here’s some photos of a new award commission from the University of Pittsburgh’s University Center for International Studies’ International Achievement Award. Since the award recipient will have to bring it back with them to their home country, it had to be easily packed into a carry on bag. I think we came up with an elegant solution for this requirement. The 9” glass disk slips into the groove in the walnut base and stands up. When it’s time to travel, the glass comes out of the base and both are easily packed into the awardee’s bag.

I also got to play with Bullseye Glass’s new reactive cloud glass for this project and got some really cool color reactions, resulting in a neat outer space effect. I also got to use Rayzist photo sensitive sandblasting resist for the first time too!
